NAB Show Main Stage Session Uncovers 'How to Win an Oscar' with a Fully Remote Creative Team

Washington, D.C. -- The 2023 NAB Show will host an intimate conversation with the creative team behind the Academy Award-winning animated short film, "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse," on Sunday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. on the Main Stage, open to all attendees. "How to Win an Oscar With a Fully Remote Creative Team" will feature visual artists for the production, which first aired in December 2022, on the BBC, to more than seven million live viewers.

Join Art Director Mike McCain and Animation Senior Support Specialist Ben Wood, with host Dave Leopold, Strategic Development Director at LucidLink, to discuss how cloud workflows enabled the film's creatives to collaborate in bringing the award-winning production to life while spread across more than 15 countries.

Since 2019, McCain has worked with a variety of studios, including Sony, Netflix, DreamWorks, Axis, NoneMore and Disney TV. McCain's credits include "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," "The Ghost and Molly McGee" and art directing "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse." Mostly self-taught as a painter, he previously worked directing video games before focusing on his passion for painting and animation art.Wood, who has more than nine years of experience in the visual effects industry, began his career early as a post-house runner and then progressed to senior-level IT positions. He has worked at major VFX studios, including Smoke & Mirrors, DNEG, and, most recently, NoneMore Productions. His credits include "Dunkirk," "Tenet," "Black Mirror" and "Chernobyl." Wood was solely responsible for the IT needs of "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse."

Leopold has held a number of creative roles in the media and entertainment industry, including editor, motion graphics artist, producer and post supervisor. Over the past two decades, he has worked with some of the biggest names in television, including most recently at ViacomCBS where he has created content of all types, including long-form series, short-form digital, concert specials, promo campaigns and documentary features. In his current role with LucidLink, Leopold brings remote collaboration solutions to the global creative community.
