Backbone Announces Cloud-Based, Talk Radio Production Suite at NAB 2016
Promotes "AfterLive" Online Radio Bundle for ex-Live365® Pro Broadcasters

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., March 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Backbone Networks returns to NAB this year with an integrated trio of innovative broadcast tools to help revitalize radio while reducing operating costs. The company known for building turnkey online radio stations and networks is introducing a cloud-based infrastructure specifically targeted at talk radio production, for both AM/FM and Internet radio stations.

Backbone asserts that 2016 is the pivotal year in a sea change for radio broadcasting, perhaps relegating music-rich programming to local terrestrial airplay and college/high school radio. With the recent publication of a new music royalty rate structure, the Copyright Royalty Board has swept away special provisions for small webcasters and commercial AM/FM simulcasters, requiring them to make expensive royalty payments on each song "performance." As the new rates hinder terrestrial stations that stream music, and as music services like Pandora® and Spotify® continue to gain online market share, there is expected to be even more emphasis placed on stations building audiences through royalty-free programming, such as sports, news and talk radio.

At NAB 2016 in Las Vegas (Booth #N6732), Backbone will be demonstrating how stations can create and expand their live talk presence, both on-air and via second-channel streaming, using agile cloud software instead of expensive electronics. Among the targeted cloud-based products Backbone will exhibit are:

  • Backbone Radio™ for radio production for live and automated broadcasts from anywhere,
  • Backbone Talk™ multi-line call-in broadcast phone system that travels on remotes,
  • Backbone Co-Host™ for studio quality distributed/remote production, guests and roving correspondents, integrated with new LUCI Global® app for iPhone®, iPad® and PCs.

Backbone also invites former Live365 Pro broadcasters to stop by to discuss a new promotion for the NAB show called AfterLive. This promotion offers qualified ex-Live365 Pro stations a discount on a bundle of two or more Backbone services.

Visit Backbone Networks at NAB2016, (LVCC, Booth #N6732, April 18-21, 2016) for business and technical discussions.
